Residential Roofing

You’ll sleep better knowing you have a Dahm Brothers roof protecting your family

Your home’s roof needs to look as good as it works. Fortunately, the variety and choices have come a long way from our ancestors’ thatch rooftops, but choosing the right roof can be a bit overwhelming. We’ll help you understand the differences and benefits of each type of roof.

There’s a lot to consider in choosing the right roof for you home: materials, color trends, textures, underlayments, weather and environmental factors, cost savings — it’s a busy list. Here are a few general considerations:

Roof Replacements:

Asphalt Shingles: Dahm Brothers Inc., can replace your old and worn out roof. If you want an asphalt shingle roof we are certified to install CertainTeed and Owens Corning roofs and can provide enhanced warranties. We also have access to IKO, GAF, Atlas, Malarkey and Tamko shingles.

Slate: If you have a slate roof we can maintain it until it needs replaced and then give you the option to install a new slate roof. Slate is a natural product that is quarried in the northeastern part of the country and in Canada. Slate comes in a number of colors such as green, gray, purple, black and red. It is also available in many sizes, shapes and thicknesses.

Clay Tile: There are quite a few clay tile roofs in the Fort Wayne area. Most of them were manufactured by the Ludowici Company. I am happy to say that Ludowici is still in business and manufacturing tile today. If you have a tile roof we can service it for you and if you want a tile roof we can install it.

Concrete Tile: Concrete tile has been around for over one hundred years. It is a less costly alternative to clay tile or Slate and will still give you the performance and longevity of a premium roofing product. We use Vande Hey Raleigh products. Vande Hey Raleigh is located in northern Wisconsin and manufacture concrete tile for the northern climate where there are many freeze thaw cycles each year.

Other specialty roofs: There are many different types of roofing available today. Some types that we can install are metal shingles that simulate slate, tile or wood shingles. Decra and Boral are two of the manufacturers that we use. Synthetic shakes or slate are manufactured by DaVinci and make for a beautiful roof.

Flat roofs: Flat roofs are many times a problem on houses. Historically most roofers who install asphalt shingles don’t have the expertise to properly install a flat roof. Our technicians are experienced in both residential and commercial low sloped roofing and we can install EPDM (rubber), TPO, Granulated modified bitumen, and copper roofing.

Granulated modified bitumen roofing is popular when a flat roof ties into a shingled roof because many times the manufacturer makes the modified bitumen roofing in the same color as the asphalt shingles. This makes for a seamless transition between the flat and shingled roofs, with no unsightly color differences.

Repairs:

Here at Dahm brothers Inc., we are committed to maintaining our customer’s roofs. Just because you have a leak appear one day does not mean that your roof needs replaced. Today’s asphalt shingle roofs typically have a life expectancy of 20 to 30 years. Some of the super heavyweight shingles can be serviced for longer than that. Leaks that appear in the ten to twenty year range can usually be repaired with minor maintenance. Common causes of leakage are rubber collars on plumbing vent pipes that have deteriorated from UV exposure, flashings on masonry chimneys that have dried out sealant, or masonry chimneys that need to be tuck-pointed. Cracked wood or vinyl siding on dormers and gables that are above lower sections of roofs can also cause leakage to occur. Our technicians can repair most of these issues or we have access to masons and carpenters who can repair the masonry or siding.

Storm damage is another issue. We can replace blown off shingles and if the damage is extensive we can do temporary repairs and then replace the entire roof.

If you have a slate or tile roof we can help you maintain the roof and greatly extend its serviceable life. Slate and tile typically have a serviceable life of over 100 years. However; maintenance is a necessity. We have an extensive inventory of salvaged slate and can replace broken or missing pieces. We also have access to clay tile and can repair your tile roof.

Many houses have small flat roofs on parts of them. We have the expertise to either repair, maintain or replace them.

Non Standard Gutters:

Many of the older homes in the Fort Wayne area have gutters that are built into the roof. Over time these gutters will manifest rust holes and seams can split. We can repair or completely replace these types of gutters.
